Abstract

Prison tourism is part of the concept of 'dark tourism', which refers to public travel to locations associated with suffering, disaster and/or death. In recent years decommissioned and operational prisons have become increasingly popular as tourist destinations, serving to enmesh the concept of punishment with a leisure experience.
