Abstract

Considers the significance of the riot which occurred in Dartmoor prison in 1932, including: (1) how the event was explained to the public; (2) the condition of the prison at that time; (3) the allegations of staff brutality made at the defendants' trial and how these were received; and (4) how the culpability of various inmates was determined.
