Abstract

"An improviser doesn't know what's going to happen next, but they know what's going to happen next is going to be their life at that moment. They're committed to it, you know; they're adventurers in that way." (Zaporah, R 2013) STDC has been exploring improvisational approaches to movement and dance at Alder Hey since 2006. Through embodied listening, physical empathy, responding and companionship an improvised duet navigates the unknown, offering the participant the possibility of leading and expressing themselves in the present moment within a clinical context where they have little control or choice.
