Abstract

Discusses, with particular reference to Football Association (FA) disciplinary proceedings against players for inappropriate tweeting, how governing bodies should regulate sportspersons' use of social media. Reviews the relevant aggravated misconduct cases against footballers before and after the revised rules of 2013-14, the FA's match fixing and betting integrity rules, and the lessons they offer for regulating social media in sport, including the role of codes of conduct and user education.
