Still Ill is an original play which was researched and produced with funding from Arts Council England. It is published by Playdead Books and toured the North West of England in November 2014. The play gives a unique ‘queer’ perspective on Northern Ireland ten years after the signing of the Good Friday Agreement. The play demonstrates an original approach to the interplay of sexuality and recent Northern Irish history. By ‘queering’ traditional Northern Irish narratives and representations of paramilitary and sectarian masculinities the play challenges representational and interpretive norms. The play is also unique in how it explores the legacy of The Troubles (10 years after peace) and its power to disrupt intimacy and pleasure. It also throws a light on a queer sub-culture and its attendant practices that have been ignored in traditional representations of Northern Irish culture.
