Abstract

This keynote speech will focus on the role of accreditation and its usefulness to those making decisions related to workforce development. Consideration will be given to the context of third party accreditation and how over the past 15 years accreditation has helped to reassure commissioners, regulators, staff and users that what is being provided has some level of external scrutiny. Acknowledging that the role of an accrediting body is to support the development, understanding, and good practice, alongside the underpinning evidence base to inform sector wide leadership and governance. However also emphasizing along the way that providers, commissioners and regulators play just as important a role as the accrediting body itself. This presentation will also consider how the role of accreditation within the health, education and social care sectors may look in the future. Considering how the message of accreditation can support the view of external validation which communicates to the wide range of stakeholders; purchasers, providers, regulators and commissioners as well as the benefit to individuals and their families.
