This chapter discussed possible reasons for the English national football team failing to win any major titles in the 48 years since winning the world cup in 1966. A total of sixty ‘face to face’ questionnaires were conducted with football fans who considered themselves to be knowledgeable about the game. The data suggested that the type of football played by the national team, the youth system, the commitment of players and the notion of ‘luck’ were all possible reasons as to why the national team had failed to win a major competition since the world cup victory in 1966.
