Abstract

In 1996 I was admitted to hospital for routine surgery and administered anaesthesia. The chemicals used resulted in my suffering long term psychological disruption. This paper is informed by that experience and is a reflective narration. It explores ways in which the self has been challenged through mental ill health. The writing also contributes to a discussion of identity forming through a reflexive dialogue on physical and psychological negotiations. These negotiations are essential to my researching principle of ‘mesearch’. The emergence of this subjective paradigm offers a platform to explore my individualised experiences of mental illness.
