Abstract

For electro-acoustic tape and live vocals. Collaborative composition by electroacoustic composer Nikos Stavropoulos and vocalist Anikó Tóth, graphic score by Anikó Tóth. The work explores and develops the range of liminal sounds (sounds between words) of grief. The sound world is inspired by Greek death vigil vocalisations called miroloi and lamentation singing called amannes, as well as Hungarian folk singing and Extended Vocal Techniques; the piece also takes inspiration from Cathy Berberian's collaborative work with Luciano Berio.
