Abstract

A comparison of the soundtracks of two experimental non-narrative found-footage films, Decasia (2002) and Lyrical Nitrate (1991). The chapter focuses on the quality and materiality of the audiovisual material, rather than the captured sounds and images alone, and finds correspondences between types of noise on the soundtrack and 'noise' of the decaying nitrate film images.
